On Nov. 18 and 19, the Laguna Beach High School Dance program will produce their annual Fall Dance Concert in the Artists Theatre at 7 p.m. The theme for this year is “Inspire…Dancing Through Moments of Inspiration.”

“Each piece in this show is inspired by something that is important to the dancers. We really wanted to showcase the things we love through movement,” said stage manager and choreographer Alyssa Decker.

Members of Dance 1 were able to contribute to the Fall Dance Concert and obtain knowledge of dance production. Dance 2, 3, 4 and Company were able to focus on the art of choreography and storytelling as a means of artistic expression.

“As stage managers, we are responsible for lighting booth cues and making sure all dancers make it on stage,” said stage manager and choreographer Ava Roop. “Alyssa and I are also in Dance 4, so we are responsible for coming up with choreography concepts for some classes. We work hard behind the scenes to ensure that people see the perfect, finished product.”

With LBHS’s Dance Director Estee Fratzke out on maternity leave, former Laker girl and new dance instructor Kelly Hesp has taken the lead. Having earned a Masters in Education and a single subject credential in physical education, Hesp is qualified to teach dance and yoga in high schools. Additionally, Hesp received a B.A. in both Dance and Communication from Chapman University, and she has trained in various styles of dance including jazz, lyrical, tap, ballet and hip-hop.

“I always strive to create an atmosphere where everyone can learn and advance with each other. Dancers will incorporate each dance from style to style with grace and athleticism, with one common goal to create an inspirational moment through the art of dance,” said Hesp.

Tickets begin selling on Nov. 2 on lbhs.booktix.com. For online presale, tickets are $10 for General Admission and $25 for Reserved seating. Come support our dance program and honor the incredible work they put into creating spectacular shows for the Laguna Beach community!

“The numbers we’re putting together for this concert are very different from what we’ve done in the past. Not only is everyone in the dance program working super hard, but there are a few people outside of the program who are contributing to this amazing show. I can’t wait to show the creativity of this year’s Company!” said senior Dance Company student Lila Goldstein.
