The brass quartet – Zachary Duncan, sousaphone; Mason Lebby, trumpet; Jordan Sitea, trumpet; and Ryan Davison, trombone – takes a breather between songs at Gelson’s Market. They have also performed at Hospitality Night, Trader Joe’s, and the teachers’ annual holiday breakfast.

Between playing various instruments and being a professional skimboarder, LBHS freshman Jordan Sitea has taken extracurriculars to an entirely new level. She participates in jazz band, marching band, drumline and wind ensemble, and she is the leader of the school’s brass quartet. While the trumpet is her primary instrument, she also plays the cello, vibraphone and the piano. Ever since 3rd grade, Sitea has had a strong passion for music.

“Music really helps express how you feel, and it’s a great creative outlet,” said Sitea.

Despite her busy schedule, Sitea practices the trumpet for at least an hour after school every day of the week. Because of all her hard work and dedication, her practice has undoubtedly paid off. Sitea has been accepted into the All-Southern Honor Group, one of the most prestigious symphonic bands in California. She also was given a scholarship to perform with a high school program in Chapman University’s Honor Band. Even with these accolades, Jordan is admired for more than her musical talent.

“What impresses Jordan’s bandmates and me about her is her remarkable work ethic,” said band teacher Jeremy Chung.

Sitea is also an accomplished professional skimboarder. She has competed in many competitions and beaten hundreds of adult women. Recently, she won $600 for placing 1st in the annual Victoria skimboarding competition, the World Championships of Skimboarding. According to the United Skim Tour, Sitea has now become the third best female skimboarder in the world!

“It gets hard to make time for everything,” said Sitea. “But I have learned to manage my time and make compromises.”

Sitea plans to continue to play the trumpet as she grows older—if not as a profession, then as a hobby. One dream of hers is to major in music in college and play in a professional orchestra.

“Jordan is extremely talented and persistently works her hardest,” said Chung. “She could be really successful at anything she chooses to do.”
