The rise of House music

The+rise+of+House+music

House music is seen worldwide; you might hear it at a high school party or the clubs in Ibiza. The 4/4 count of this electronic style brings adrenaline to the listeners, leaving them wondering how many counts until the next beat-drop. House is one of the earliest types of electronic music, commonly seen in DJ sets and music festivals. House has developed its name on social media, which has caused a rise in artists like Fisher and Fred again. House music is typically heard at night clubs, but it has sprouted beyond club culture and is now a mainstream genre. Incorporating itself into musicians like Beyonce and Lady Gaga, House continues to rise across the globe.

With its vibrant vitality and lively environment, House music and its DJs are now headlining popular music festivals. Coming in May of 2024, Kaytranada is headlining at the Wonderfront music festival in San Diego, CA. Kaytranada was also seen in the Coachella 2023 lineup, having grown into a headlining artist in mere years. Peggy Gou is a rising DJ who has drawn many of her fans to gather at one of the biggest stages in the world, Coachella; it’s the location where her single “(It Goes Like) Nanana” left the crowd out of breath. Australia’s favorite, Flume, first gained popularity in 2011 when they dropped their popular song “Sleepless.” In 2023, Flume again won Triple J’s Hottest 100 with their 2022 hit “Say Nothing,” featuring DJ MAY-A. After not touring for a while, Flume is celebrating its 10th anniversary at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. As seen in the last ten years, House is loved by the crowd as its radiant beat-drops instantly boost the crowd’s mood.

House music has especially grown through the use of social media; apps like TikTok and Instagram help songs like Fisher’s “Take it Off” and Flume’s “Never Be Like You” trend and those artists are subsequently gaining listeners from these platforms. Social media also allows DJs to earn their base talent, as numerous tutorials or livestream lessons teach the basics of DJing; the increase in this electronic style on everyday social apps is positive for the creators and the listeners. This allows artists to grow and listeners to develop a wider music pallet, which can affect the evolution of House. TikTokers gathered to countdown the Spotify drop of the song “These Words” by Badger and Natasha Bedingfield. Fans show their love and appreciation for these artists and continue to positively boost the House environment. From huge artists like Fisher to smaller artists like Peggy Gou, their music is gaining popularity throughout TikTok, allowing them to achieve their desired amount of listeners.

The popularity of House music amongst Gen-Z is due to social media influence and captivating live experiences; Gen-Z has expressed its immense diversity. Still, their vocal opinions on TikTok trends to even just politics. House originates from marginalized groups, so Gen-Z expressed their inclusivity by showing their love for this electronic style. The demand for creativity in House music draws creators and listeners to this unique style. House has taken over festivals worldwide and is making its way up the charts as one of the fastest-growing music categories.
