Last night, Feb. 13, at 7:00 p.m. at Wollet Aquatic Center in Irvine, the LBHS Girls Water Polo team defeated the Foothill Knights in the CIF Division-1 Semi-final game. The Breakers, although favored coming into this game, dropped their only loss to Foothill earlier in the season by a score of 4-3.

A fast-moving and defensively oriented first quarter ended with a score of 2-0 thanks to goals from senior Cici Stewart and junior Tea Poljack.

The Knights added two goals early in the second making the score 3-2 in favor of the Breakers. The Breakers responded by going on a 4-0 run near the end of the second and into the third period, pushing the score to 7-2.

The Breakers held a comfortable lead throughout the rest of the second half despite a late push from Foothill. The game concluded with the Breakers claiming victory by a score of 9-6, thanks to a great defensive effort anchored by senior goalkeeper Quinn Winter who finished the match with nine saves, including several on the 5 on 6 disadvantage. Poljak finished the game with a match-high three goals.

The Breakers will battle against league rival CDM for the CIF Division-1 crown this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Wollet Aquatic Center.
