On November 14th, 2023, LBHS Girls Basketball faced Godinez High School for their first game of the season. The game was exhilarating and kept spectators at the edge of their seats with the leading team changing per basket.
In the beginning, Godinez stood in the lead, ending the first quarter with the scoreboard at 9 to 11. However, the Breakers turned around and led each quarter after, finishing the game with a score of 41 to 33.
The team was triumphant and excited to begin their season with a victory, especially because of the uncertainty that led up to the game. Many players in Breakers basketball are new to the varsity team, and the Breakers also have a new assistant coach in place.
“The win made me feel more confident in the potential of our team,” stated varsity player Kate Cheng, who led her team to victory by scoring the game’s first three-pointer.
The excitement did not stop there for the Breakers; their personal and team-wide goal is to be positive and hopeful. Cheng states, “Some goals I have for the rest of the season are for everyone to be able to have fun playing basketball and for the team to have good synergy and get along well.”
The LBHS Girl’s Basketball team continues to show their teamwork and perseverance with a 58-11 win against Rosemead High School. Currently, the team has 2 wins and a loss but, they will face Trabuco Hills High School on Thursday, November 30th, and Yorba Linda High School on Monday, December 4th.
