Next year, we will see a new addition to our athletics. Both boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams will be created in addition to a boys wrestling team. The girls lacrosse team will be coached by chemistry teacher Alexandra Holtz, while the boys coaches for lacrosse and wrestling are still undecided. Sadly, no summer training will be offered this year for either sport, but there is planning for training over next summer.

Both teams will feature Varsity teams, and both JV and Frosh teams will be added if the numbers of athletes allow for them in the future. Also, both sports will be in the Orange Coast League with rival schools Saddleback, Godinez, Calvary Chapel and others. The division is also yet to be decided. Additionally, wrestling will be held in the winter, while both boys and girls lacrosse will be spring sports.

Both wrestling and lacrosse will add new athletic culture. There are many students who are already enthusiastic about contributing to the new teams.

“I’m really going to enjoy lacrosse,” said junior Sam Pierce. “I’m fired up that it’s being introduced into LBHS athletics.”

Offering these new sports has been very intriguing to students at LBHS, with some making their commitments to the new sports right away.

“I’m excited to try a new sport with all my friends! I can already tell I’m going to love it,” said sophomore Addison Briggs.

Though there are still many unclear aspects of both sports, it is very clear that the sports will have outstanding support and enthusiasm from the students planning to participate.
