The NFL Draft is where college football players are drafted into the NFL and start their rookie season with the team that drafted them. Each year there are many prestigious players as well as unnoticed players that are selected to play for their respective teams.
Below is my list of who I think each team will select with their current pick and some insight into why I think that team will select them with their pick.
With the 1st Pick, The Chicago Bears select Caleb Willams (QB) from USC.
After the Bears answered their main question of would be starting at quarterback by trading away Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Therefore, suggesting there will be a new rookie quarterback leading the charge for Chicago. Williams is one of the most sought-after quarterbacks and is an easy pick at the 1 spot. Williams is great in and out of the pocket on the run. He will be able to sling the ball downfield but also maneuver around to create some magic. With already a plethora of receivers like DJ Moore who put up 1,364 yards and caught 8 endzone passes. Also, by trading for former Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen they become a more complete team. The pick was graded an (A+) by the NFL Mock Draft Database Simulator.
With the 2nd Pick, The Washington Commanders select Jayden Daniels (QB) from LSU.
Like the Bears, the Commanders also traded away their former starting quarterback(Sam Howell to the Seahawks) and are in the market for a new one. As a Washington fan, I have seen many quarterbacks come and go on this team. However, last year’s Heisman winner Jayden Daniels isn’t like any other quarterback. He has a great presence in the pocket and is very alert when he has the ball in his hand. He could either take off for a giant rushing gain or use his rocket of an arm to fly the ball downfield. Former QB Sam Howell, who threw many interceptions and was sacked many times last year struggled with pressure from the opponent’s defensive line. However, with all of the moves the Commanders have made to bolster their offense and defense, I feel this rebuilding year will go well for us. The pick was given an (A).
With the 3rd Pick, The New England Patriots select Drake Maye (QB) from North Carolina.
Just as the Bears and Commanders have moved on from their starting quarterback New England, also is looking to get a new franchise quarterback since, the departure of Tom Brady, and return to the glory days. Mac Jones was their former quarterback and struggled as the team had little to no weapons on offense. Maye would definitely struggle but, is a big deep threat and has a strong build which would help him break tackles. The pick was graded an (A+).
With the 4th Pick, The Arizona Cardinals select Marvin Harrison Jr (WR) from Ohio State.
The Cardinals want to help their quarterback, Kyler Murray, as much as possible. So, they will draft possibly the best receiver in all of college football to strengthen their receiving core as a quarterback Kyler Murray a great receiver who can do everything that they haven’t had since, Deandre Hopkins. After losing receiver Hollywood Brown to the Kansas City Chiefs, this will help to fill the large hole in the receiver room. Harrison Jr excels in route running, speed, and football IQ and has hands that can come down with any ball thrown his way. The pick received an (A+).
With the 5th Pick, The Los Angeles Chargers select Malik Nabers (WR) from LSU.
The Los Angeles Chargers used to have an amazing offensive team, but this year they have really fallen off from their former years. They lost Keenan Allen and Mike Williams(traded to the Jets) which leaves no receivers for quarterback Justin Herbert. They will want to give quarterback Justin Herbert an elite weapon to boost their offense. With rookie receiver Quentin Johnston off to a difficult start, the Chargers will want to start new with this explosive player. Nabers is a freak athlete who is strong and speedy which is a dangerous combination. He is a huge deep threat and can’t be left open for even a second. The pick received an (A)
With the 6th Pick, The New York Giants select J.J. McCarthy (QB) from Michigan.
Their injured quarterback, Daniel Jones, hasn’t been their man, and although backup Tommy Devito has been playing well, he isn’t ideally their long-term starting quarterback. McCarthy has good arm strength and would be a huge upgrade for receiver Jaliyan Hyatt. After the departure of Saqon Barkley, it has left a dent in the offense but, J.J. should be able to pick up the slack. The pick got a grade of(A).
With the 7th Pick, The Tennesse Titans select Terrion Arnold (CB) from Alabama.
With one of the worst defenses in the league last year, the Titans will want an elite player to lead them. Arnold will help them increase their defensive play and allow them to give up fewer yards and touchdown passes. Arnold has a great speed burst which he can use when needed and is great at making adjustments. The pick was given an(A)
With the 8th Pick, The Atlanta Falcons select Dallas Turner (DE) from Alabama.
The Falcons have been mainly focused on their offense so, I think they should pivot and take a defensive lineman to attack opposing teams’ quarterbacks. Turner is a great well well-rounded player who has some good moves to get past offensive linemen. The pick received an(A+).
With the 9th Pick, The Chicago Bears select Byron Murphy II (DL) from Texas.
Since the Bears already took Caleb William with the first pick, they will want to focus on the defensive side by selecting a defensive player. The Bears already have Montez Sweat at the defensive end position so, I think a linemen on the interior would be better. Murphy is a freak player who is a strong and aggressive player. He is able to press and also explode past offensive linemen. The pick was given a grade of (C+).
With the 10th Pick, The New York Jets select Joe Alt (OT) from Notre Dame.
The New York Jets started the 2023 season off to a rough start with their acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffering an injury within his first snaps. Rodgers looks to be back for the 2024 season, so the Jets will try to give him a better look after he has hiked the ball. Joe Alt is a great run-blocking and high-IQ player. He has great footwork and enough strength to hold off defenders. The pick received an (A+).
