Over the past few days, Governor of California Gavin Newsom has been struggling with the idea of reopening the public. With states like Georgia already reopening places like gyms and movie theaters, it begs the question if all of this is too early. With total cases still on the rise it’s scary that states even consider the idea of reopening. More than half of the states in the US have a mandatory quarantine that expires on April 30th. Of course they could prolong this, but with states already reopening that doesn’t seem likely. The US still leads with cases, having nearly 829,392 cases, 31% of total cases around the globe. Reopening too early could lead to another spike in cases and cause the country to have to start from square one all over again.  

 “There’s a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,” said CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield.

This new information along with the ever-worsening flu season could be detrimental to our country. Not only is reopening happening internally in our own states but entire countries such as Germany have reopened their country back to the public, and have stopped enforcing mandatory quarantine. Their cases have risen, and that can only be a warning sign to other countries.

Overall this idea of reopening is very premature and shouldn’t be in the works in any country let alone the one with the most cases.
