Artist Statement: I love drawing interactions and making candid pieces that make the viewer feel like they can understand the subjects’ feelings through their expressions. Creating a clear, readable emotion is the most satisfying part for me.
Q: How did your passion for art begin?
A: Art became a passion when I started middle school and I began exploring my style on my own outside of classwork. I’d done it for years before, I started liking it in middle school, and I started loving it very recently.
Q: Is there anything unique or interesting about your evolution as an artist thus far that you can share with us?
A: Looking back on my art, I used to only draw portraits by replicating instead of interpreting and translating independently. My art was a patchwork of features, now it’s more dimensional and I don’t feel the need to have a base. My favorite pieces are the ones where I don’t know what I’m doing until I’ve gotten the sketch down.
Q: Where do you envision your art taking you in the future? What goals do you have as an artist?
A: My goals are to make my pieces more unified, as most of my pieces are just floating around in white space. Part of this is experimenting with hues, another is using backgrounds and perspective. Being able to keep learning and improving my skills gives me satisfaction on its own.
