It’s the spookiest time of the year at LBHS, and you don’t have to be a kid to dress up in costumes. Every Halloween, LBHS allows students and teachers to dress up in any costume they want and participate in a Halloween costume contest.

History teacher Jun Shen likes to have fun with his costumes every year. In 2013, Shen was a hashtag for Halloween.

I simply glued a three inch tall cardboard hashtag in front of my shirt,” said Shen.

In 2014, he dressed up as the Ice Bucket Challenge.

“I wore a bucket on my head with fake ice and water pouring out of it,” said Shen.

Shen’s all time favorite costume was in 2009; Shen dressed up as Mr. Sogo and Mr. Sogo dressed up as Mr. Shen.

“My favorite of all time by far was when Mr. Sogo and I dressed as each other. I had longer hair then, that’s why Mr. Sogo was wearing a wig,” said Shen.

According to ASB Director Jennifer Lundblad, the rules for Halloween mirror the regular rules for the school’s dress code.

“We encourage students to participate and dress up. Students should get creative and have fun. It should be an enjoyable experience for all, whether choosing to dress up or just enjoy others’ costumes. Students may wear store-bought costumes or create their own. Face paint is allowed. Anything that students wear needs to abide by school dress code,” said Lundblad.

Limitations on costumes include: masks, weapons, anything that promotes violence or creates danger, anything gang-related, anything discriminatory or profane, or anything that is clearly insensitive to others.

ASB also coordinated Halloween activities to take place during the school day.

“There was a student and staff halloween costume contest on the day of Halloween. There were also Halloween-themed games and activities taking place on Monday and Tuesday of Halloween week,” said Lundblad.

Not only can the teachers have fun on Halloween— students can as well! Junior Collin Anderson describes his halloween plans in this little “Q and A”:
