  1. When is the school implementing GradeSlam, the free online tutoring service?
With the testing phase complete, we planned a school-wide rollout on Thursday and Friday during advisory,” said LBHS teacher Jun Shen.
      2. How do students login to the program and use it? “Students login through Beach Port and click the GradeSlam link.  Then they pick a subject.  They are then connected with a teacher/tutor.  They can upload images and write on them through any device,” said Chief Technology Director Michael Morrison. “The service is available 24/7 and all core subjects are covered (Mandarin is covered as well).”

3. How will GradeSlam benefit students? “A lot of students have impacted schedules that prevent them from getting help at more traditional times (after school, SDL, etc.). Furthermore, when students are absent, they lose access to help from their classroom teachers.  It is hoped that GradeSlam is so flexible and accessible that such students can get help anytime, anywhere,” said Shen.
4. What are the tutors like? “The Gradeslam tutors are all credentialed teachers and trained in Common Core,” said Shen.
5.  How is this program being funded for the whole school? “The SchoolPower Endowment is paying for the pilot.  A thorough evaluation will be made before renewal.  We will look at usage stats and get feedback from the students/teachers to determine if GradeSlam was effective,” said Morrison.
6.  How is the process of integrating it into the school coming along? We’ve run some live trials with a handful of students and the results were quite encouraging,” said Morrison.
